Day trip to Pakokku (L)

starting from $93

After breakfast, you will travel by car to Pakokku (approx. 1 hour), a typical market town in Upper Burma. There, you’ll visit the market and its vibrant goings-on, a typical cigar-making shop and a traditional hand-weaving workshop. A trishaw tour guarantees you a pleasant glimpse of what life is really like in this bustling town. A lesser known archaeological site, Pakhangyi, is located around 20 km to the north of Pakokku. Take a look at the walls; visit the museum and the spectacular 19thcentury monastery, carved from wood. From here, it’s just 3 more kilometres to Pakhan-nge, a small town on the Chindwin River. This is where you’ll find the largest monastery in the area. Amongst the ruins of the monastery, the only objects to be seen are 332 teakwood pillars that rise, toothpick-like, from the ground. After lunching at the River Garden Kitchen Restaurant, you will travel by private boat along the mighty Ayeyarwady River back to Bagan (approx. two hours).
