Day 1 HEHO AIRPORT – HSUU PAN INN – WAH GYI MYAUNG (trek 15 km, approx. 4 ½ hours) (L, D)

After arrival at Heho Airport, drive for approx. 30 minutes to Thapyetpu, your starting point for the 2-day trekking trip to Inle Lake. Your local station guide will introduce you to the villagers along the way and show you the traditional way of life. After one hour, you’ll arrive at a beautiful village called Kam Par Ni, a Danu village. Producing clay pots (pottery) and knives (smithing) are some of the work people do for a living. After the visit, continue for another hour to Hsuu Pan Inn, another Danu village. A delicious meal will be served for lunch at the village. In the afternoon, walk for another two and half hours uphill (with an altitude difference of 200 m) to Wah Gyi Myaung, a typical Taung Yoe village. This village has a place to view the beautiful sunset at the top of the hill. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the monastery, which is located about 1,600 m above sea level.

Day 2 WAH GYI MYAUNG – CHAUNGGYIPAUK - KHAUNG DINE – INLE LAKE (trek 10 km, approx. 3 hours) (B, L)

After breakfast, leave the monastery at 8:00 am to travel to Inle Lake. Walk for one hour downhill (with an altitude difference of 200 m) to Chaunggyipauk, an exotic Danu village. From here, continue uphill for another half an hour before the trek goes deep into the woods (and, for two hours, steeply downhill, with an altitude distance of 300 m) to Kaung Dine, on the north-western shore of Inle Lake. This Intha village is well known for producing soybean cakes and noodles. Have a tasty meal at a small restaurant in Khaung Dine. After lunch, take a wonderful boat ride to the hotel for check-in.

Trekking tours in southern Shan State

Southern Shan State is the most popular area for trekking. Kalaw, Pindaya and Inle Lake are good starting points to nearby Palaung, Danu, Taung Yoe, Pao villages through pine woods, orchards and bamboo groves. This region produces temperate climate fruits such as pears, peaches and oranges in addition to rice, tea, wheat, soya beans, groundnuts, tobacco, potatoes, garlic, sunflower seeds and dried green cordia leaves used as cheroot wrappers. You will stay overnight at private houses or at monasteries.

Hikes leading to the north of the Inle Lake are very popular. But there is also the opportunity to hike to the south of the Inle Lake (Samkar Lake). Here, you will have the opportunity to experience the original culture and traditional lifestyle of the Pao and Intha people. The trekking trips are not very difficult, mostly soft up and down, approx. 6 hours a day.

Accommodation in the villages/monasteries is very simple, but clean. There is mostly a well and a typical Asian toilet. For the overnight stay in the village we provide mattresses, blankets and mosquito nets. Please note that during the winter season from November till February temperatures in some mountain areas drop to 0°C. During this time jackets, sweaters, socks and warm pyjamas are necessary (a must).

Breakfast is usually served around 7 am; lunch is usually simple, light and served at mid-day whereas dinners are more extensive and usually at local homes or monasteries. Clients with special dietary requirements must inform us of these at the time of booking.

For the trekking days you need only light luggage, porters are included to carry your luggage. The main luggage will be transported by car/boat to your hotel at Inle Lake.
