Day 01 BAGAN – PYAY
After a day of travel (lasting around nine hours) you will arrive at Pyay. The ‘land of highly civilised people’ is located 285 kilometres north-west of Yangon, on the banks of the Ayeyarwady. Descended from the Mongolian people of 5,000 years ago, the Pyu are the forefathers of the Burmese. Overnight stay at Mingalar Garden Hotel in Pyay.
Day 02 PYAY (B)
You will first visit the lively market, where you can mainly find everyday items for sale. Then drive by car to Htone Bo (approx. 2 hours), the starting point for your boat trip to Akout Taung (the hill of tax collection), which is named after the colonial tradition of collecting taxes from passing boats. Niches, which are partly arranged one above the other in four rows, contain sitting (and some standing) Buddha statues. Time permitting, you will also be able to visit the nearby waterfall and small monastery. Upon your return, visit the Shwenandaw Pagoda, one of Myanmar’s most sacred places, and the night market. Overnight stay at Mingalar Garden Hotel in Pyay.
Day 03 PYAY – YANGON (B)
Srikhetra is a small paradise for archaeologists. It is the biggest and best-preserved Pyu settlement. Payagyi, Payama and Bawbawgyi are some of the oldest stupas in Myanmar. Visit also the small museum in Hmawza.
On the return trip to Yangon (approx. 6 hours), you will arrive at Shwedaung, where the world’s only bespectacled Buddha statue can be seen inside the Shwemyetman Pagoda. Late afternoon arrival in Yangon.
